Research and rationale

Our design for checkboxes are based on the GOV UK Design system research and the original DTA Checkbox design.

The checkboxes in our Design System are much larger than default browser inputs to provide larger hit/target areas for touchscreen devices or mobility impaired users. There is a smaller version available where this isn't practical (Digital Transformation Agency, 2018).

Much of the design of our checkboxes  was influenced by our research into forms which is covered in more detail in our form component section.
